Cream Pottery with Coffee Cup Line Art

If you’re looking for a fun and creative pottery painting idea, this coffee cup line art design is a simple yet striking project. It works beautifully on small pots, making it perfect for kitchens, coffee nooks, or as a unique handmade gift for coffee lovers.

Step 1: Preparing the Base Coat

My pot was originally a terracotta colour, which can show through lighter paints if they’re not very opaque. To help conceal it, I started with a white base coat. This layer made it much easier to achieve an even finish with my final colour. I recommend adding enough coats so that the original terracotta is completely covered.

Step 2: Painting the Cream Layer

Once the white coat was fully dry, I painted the pot with several layers of cream (off-white) paint until I was satisfied with the coverage and evenness. Patience here pays off, aim for thin layers build to up to a smooth, professional look without streaks.

Step 3: Drawing the Coffee Cup

When the cream paint was dry, I used a pencil to lightly sketch a simple coffee cup design. Any mistakes can easily be fixed by painting over them with the cream paint and starting again.

Step 4: Painting the Line Art

Using a very fine brush and black paint, I carefully went over my pencil sketch to create the line art.

Because the pot was small, it was tricky to get the lines perfectly neat. To fix this, I alternated between tidying up the edges with cream paint and repainting with black.

I repeated this back-and-forth process (cream, black, cream, black) until I was happy with the crispness and shape of the lines.

Step 5: Displaying Your Finished Piece

This small cream pot with coffee cup line art is not only a beautiful decorative item but also highly functional. It works perfectly in a kitchen, on a coffee nook shelf, or even as a planter for herbs or small plants. It’s a charming way to add personality and warmth to your space while celebrating your love for coffee.
