While this painted plant pot is very simple it turned out to be one of my favourite plant pots that I have painted so far. I didn’t plan for it to go in the fairy garden direction that it did, but when the idea struck me there was no going back.
Of course, you don’t have to use this in a fairy garden, there are many other places that you can use it. I mean, technically you don’t even have to use it as a planter. It can even hold some other things like pens for you.
Painting the Pot
For this project, I painted the pot white before putting over the colour. However, you can decide if you really want to do that. Because the colours of the final product is quite dark, it is actually not quite as necessary. So it’s really a matter of personal preference.

Thereafter, I painted everything blue. Because the coverage of my paint isn’t great, I had to paint quite a few layers until I was satisfied that the lower layers didn’t shine through anymore.

After that, I painted red at the bottom of the pot. And then blended it using a different paintbrush that has some blue paint on it. I kept blending with the two different brushes, one with red paint, one with blue paint, until I was satisfied that it looked very gradual.
Once that was dry, I painted a black horizon at the bottom of my pot.

After which, I went over and tapped the brush on the edges of the horizon to make the effect of bushes. When you do this, make sure that there is not too much paint on your brush, otherwise you won’t really get that leaf effect.
Next, I started painting the trees. I first painted the stems and the branches, and then went over all of those with my brush, tapping it along the way to make the idea of leaves. Once again, make sure that there is not too much paint on your brush to ensure a great leaf effect.
I went right around the pot with this tree idea, making trees of different sizes, or even some bushes in between.
This is a really simple but beautiful planter that you can use for many different things. It is perfect for a fairy garden in which you want to create the effect of a sunset.
